Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) is located in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area within walking distance to the Harvard Medical School, the Harvard

babies are born annually at BWH, and the Newborn Intensive Care Unit cares for more than 1,300 infants annually.
In addition to being the regional leader in preeminent women’s health services, BWH is also one of the nation’s leading transplant centers, performing
heart, lung, kidney, and heart-lung transplant surgery, as well as bone marrow transplantation. BWH is a pioneer in face transplantation and performed
the nation’s first full facial transplant in 2011.
A teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, BWH sponsors or co-sponsors 118 Graduate Medical Education programs with Massachusetts General Hospital
and/or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
BWH is a top recipient of research grants from the National Institutes of Health with an annual research budget of more than $537 million. The hospital
is internationally known for its clinical, translational, bench and population-based research studies, including the landmark Nurses Health Study, Physicians
Health Study, and the Women’s Health Initiative.
