Transition Timeline

In order to comply with PL 106-107 federal agencies have had to set aggressive timelines to transition to Grants.Gov. By now federal agencies have all or nearly all of their funding announcements posted online under the Find section of Grants.Gov and are now focusing on increasing the number of opportunities that can be applied for via electronic application and phasing out paper applications. Below is the the NIH timeline for making each grant mechanism available for electronic application.

Background

In response to the Federal Financial Assistance Management Improvement Act (PL 106-107), Grants.gov was created to provide a single web site for all federal grant opportunities.

On November 20, 1999, the President signed the Federal Financial Assistance Management Improvement Act for the purpose of:

  • improving the effectiveness and performance of Federal grant programs,
  • simplifying grant application and reporting requirements,
  • improving the delivery of services to the public, and
  • facilitating greater coordination among those responsible for delivering such services.
