LOAN DEFERMENTS

A Brief How To

The Registrar’s Office can verify your student enrollment for the time you are registered at H.M.S. for loan deferments. (MD/Ph.D. students should contact the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences for enrollment verification while they are registered in the Ph.D. portion of the program).
To have your enrollment verified, please bring the form sent to you by your loan company to the Registrar's Office, Gordon Hall, Room 213. We will fill out the verification portion and send it to the loan company. Please remember to fill out the student portion, and sign your name. The verification form will not be valid without your signature.
In many cases this process needs to be repeated each year that you are in Medical School. To minimize problems for you later on, this should be taken care of in a timely manner.
Dates of enrollment vary and are as follows for the 2001/2002 academic year:

First year students’ enrollment dates are: August 29, 2001, to June 14, 2002.

Second year students’ enrollment dates are: August 27, 2001 to May 24, 2002.

Third year students’ enrollment dates are: July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002.

Fourth years students’ enrollment dates are: July 1, 2001 to June 6, 2002.

We can verify your full time enrollment for the above dates only.
Many student loans have grace periods which means you will not have to start repaying your loan during the summer break. However, if your loan does NOT have this grace period, you are responsible for making payments during the summer. If you are unable to pay, and need to arrange a forbearance for the summer vacation period, you need to contact your loan company.
