USMLE STEP EXAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION


USMLE application discs are available in the HMS Registrar’s Office. Please read the materials carefully!

Completed USMLE registration materials must be certified by the HMS Registrar before being mailed to the USMLE. The Registrar’s Office hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm.

Please read all the USMLE application and test registration materials carefully.

Second year students are strongly encouraged to take the Step I exam on a date that falls before August 31.

Final year students are required to take the Step II exam on a date that falls before December 31.

Any student who wants to take the exam after those dates, must discuss their situation with their Associate Master or Master of their Academic Society.

The application process:

  1. Complete the application (use black ink only and your photograph and check must be included).

  2. Return the completed application to the Registrar’s Office (Mon–Fri 9:00 am – 5:00 pm).

  3. The Registrar is the school official that needs to certify your application

  4. The certified application will be mailed out (via First Class Mail) by the Registrar’s Office to the USMLE within 1–2 days.

    * The Registrar’s Office will not express mail any applications.

  5. Applications will be processed by the USMLE within 4–6 weeks.

  6. Your Scheduling Permit will be mailed to you by the USMLE.

  7. Once your scheduling permit is received, you call Sylvan to select your exam appointment.

    IMPORTANT: Your name on the Scheduling Permit must match exactly your name on the identification you are required to present at the Sylvan Test Center. Sylvan will accept only a valid, unexpired government issued form of identification that includes both your photo and signature (such as a passport or driver’s license).
