Center for Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences and Medicine (CBBSM)
CBBSM is the successor of the Biophysics Research Laboratory, which was established in 1954 under the direction of Dr. Bert Vallee, the Edgar M. Bronfman Senior Distinguished Professor, with the purpose of bridging basic biochemical and biophysical research and clinical investigation. The center was the first Harvard academic entity to establish ties to industry, with the Harvard-Monsanto agreement being the hallmark. The CBBSM was established in 1980 on the execution of the Bronfman endowment. Building on the legacy of its predecessor, the Center continues to promote broad research programs with clinical relevance. The Center, currently consisting of Dr. Guo-Fu Hu and Dr. Wing Ming Keung, is focused on three main research programs, role of zinc in biology, cellular and molecular biology of angiogenin, and alcohol metabolism.
Originally located in the HMS satellite at One Kendall Square in Cambridge, the Center moved in 2003 to its present site in the Pathology department at the Harvard Medical School. For more information please visit the CBBSM WEBSITE |
