Current teaching and research interests:
My teaching and research concentration within palliative care is pain and symptom management of patients with cancer, including the early detection and aggressive treatment of spinal cord compression and of delirium. The second edition of my book, “A Physician’s Guide to Pain and Symptom Management in Cancer Patients”, was published in 2005 by Johns Hopkins University Press. I am currently a clinical collaborator on two research studies hoping to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families. I am also very involved in organizational change, and in helping those who are engaged in this in their practice sites.
