Special Features: The Pre-Matriculation Summer Program (PMSP)

The Pre-Matriculation Summer Program (PMSP) at Harvard Medical School (HMS), established in 1969, exposes entering HMS and Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) minority students to research and its relevance to clinical medicine. Through laboratory investigation, seminars and coursework, students gain a better understanding of career options in academic medicine. The program's goal is to address the tremendous paucity of minorities engaged in biomedical research here in the New England medical community and nationally.

PMSP is a primary effort at HMS directed towards developing faculty from entering minority dental and medical students. It provides a vital service by fostering student interest in academic medicine and providing a mechanism for minority students and faculty to exchange ideas and interests.

Students accepted into the program will be known as Pfeiffer Fellows and will be encouraged to participate in other Pfeiffer sponsored initiatives. PMSP does not require prior research experience, and is open only to students admitted to the first year class at HMS or HSDM.
