Dr. Thor uses Drosophila (fruit flies) as a genetic system to study cell differentiation and cell fate. In this lab experience, you will have the opportunity to study the nervous system of Drosophila embryos. You'll look at different nerve cells, including those affected by neurodegenerative diseases, and watch developing nervous systems through microscopes. Dr. Thor will then take you to the Harvard Center for Neurodegenerative Repair (HCNR) and discuss its relevance on neurodegenerative disease research today.
