In researching neurological development and neurodegenerative diseases, the Tsai lab uses a combination of cutting edge approaches including profiling the modification of proteins in brain tissues and live imaging of mice brains. Breaking an impasse in Alzheimer's research, the Tsai lab has identified that Alzheimer’s Disease patients’ brains seem to have higher percentages of a protein than normal. This protein can divert an enzyme from its day-to-day work in the brain and turn it into a menace that ultimately destroys neurons. In this lab, you'll get the opportunity to study this process by the staining different brain sections, viewing them in live imaging under a Delta microscope, watching a movie produced from the live imaging, and experiencing the protein profiling procedure.
