| CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS
A charitable remainder trust can offer you the flexibility to support scientific research, scholarship, or medical education at Harvard Medical School while designing a strategy to meet your individual goals. You may build a retirement account, generate higher income from assets you currently own, or provide for your spouse, family members, or other loved ones. You select the type of payment you wish to receive: a fixed payment that pays a set dollar amount annually, or a fluctuating payment that pays a percentage of the trust assets as determined annually. The beneficiaries you designate will receive income for life or for a specified period of years. In addition, you may qualify for an immediate charitable income tax deduction. Stock, cash, real estate, or other assets can be used to fund the trust. As Lillian Madway's donor profile describes, donors creating charitable remainder trusts can chose to support other charitable organizations of importance to them. THE EZEKIEL HERSEY COUNCIL DEAR ALUMNI AND FRIENDS OF HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL: Since the last issue of Foresight, the difficult conditions of the stock market and its resulting uncertainty have led many to rethink their financial, retirement, and estate plans. During this period of economic instability, I encourage you to consider how the life income gift plans offered by Harvard Medical School can provide a secure income for you and your family and help you plan effectively for retirement. As you begin your year-end financial and philanthropic planning, I hope you will consider creating a life income gift that will help Harvard Medical School achieve its mission.
