Admission to the M.D.-Ph.D. Program is contingent upon admission to the Harvard
Medical School (HMS) New Pathway and/or Health Sciences and Technology (HST)
Program. Applicants in the basic sciences track do not need to complete
a separate application to graduate school at this time. Application to
the graduate program is usually made during the second year following matriculation
in medical school.
Applicants in the social sciences track, however, must complete a separate
application to the Harvard Graduate
School of Arts and Sciences or School
of Public Health. Only those applicants in the social sciences who are admitted
to both MD and PhD programs separately will be considered for offers
of funding.
There are two application cycles during the academic year for students applying
to the M.D.-Ph.D. Program in both the basic and social sciences tracks. The
first cycle is for new HMS applicants applying to medical school for the New
Pathway and/or the HST Program. The second cycle is for medical students currently
enrolled. Evaluation of applicants is based upon careful review of all materials.
Please note that letters of recommendations from research supervisor(s) are
an important component in the evaluation process. Applicants selected
for interviews will be invited for interviews to be coordinated by the staff
members of the HMS admissions and MD-PhD Program offices.
