His research focuses on interventions to improve the quality and safety of health care, with special emphases on the use of educational programs and healthcare information technology to improve the delivery and receipt of care for common primary care conditions. A practicing internist, Dr. Simon is a member of Harvard’s Academy of Medical Educators and serves on the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Committee on Medical Education.

J. Michael Gaziano, M.D., M.P.H., MAVERIC (Massachusetts Veterans Epidemiology Research & Information Center) Director and Director of Education, is a cardiovascular epidemiologist with more than 15 years of research experience. He received an M.P.H. at the Harvard School of Public Health while a trainee in the Division of Preventive Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where he continues to conduct research. For the past four years he has been on staff at the Brockton-West Roxbury VA Medical Center as a preventive cardiologist and is currently Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation. As MAVERIC Director, he is based at the West Roxbury VA where he oversees the statistical, data coordination, and project coordination officers, and serves as the training program director. He directs and assists the administrative officer in interactions with the technical staff and principal investigators.
