Epithelial Cell Biology Core

Overview:

Provides technologies and resources required for studies on polarized
epithelial cells that line mucosal surfaces. We provide specialized epithelial
cell culture and gene manipulation services, customized materials and
instrumentation, expert know-how, and training to facilitate structural and
functional studies on polarized epithelial cell culture systems or mucosal intestinal
tissue in situ.

There are 2 locations for Core C, Children's Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Services:

  • Provide basic cell culture
  • Polarized epithelial cell culture on Transwell plates with 6.5/12-mm inserts 1.4/3 pm
  • 3D culture in collagen/matrigel gells
  • Generate cell lines permitting expression or knockdown of molecules

Equipment:

Fees:

Services provided by the Core are subsidized and on a charge-back basis.  They are designed to achieve economies of scale for purchase of supplies and labor so that the real costs of epithelial cell culture are subsidized by approximately 50% for individual investigators.
