The Family Van utilizes volunteers from a number of schools as well as many private individuals. Over the years we have learned to use all available talent – from teenagers leading dance classes for a weight loss event to medical residents administering culturally appropriate care.  In addition to services on the van we also require volunteer assistance for marketing efforts, to maintain the van itself by cleaning and painting it or even drive it for community events such as the walk for hunger. The possibilities are limited only by our imagination.

Primary Objective:

• To gain experience in providing culturally appropriate health promotion education and counseling.

Objectives:

• Volunteers will use case finding methods including “street outreach” into the community to find patrons disenfranchised from the healthcare system.
• Volunteers will become skilled at various basic medical screenings and subsequent age-appropriate general health education techniques.
• Volunteers will become skilled in effective communication with culturally and educationally diverse groups
