HMS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
FOR PHYSICIANS AND SCIENTISTS

This course is designed for HMS and HSDM instructors, assistant professors, or associate professors (see specifics under "guidelines") who currently have responsibility for a research grant, laboratory, educational course, or clinical unit. This course is intended for those in the early stages of leadership and not for chairs of departments or divisions. The goal of the Program is to build on participants' knowledge base and skills to enhance their professional development as administrative leaders in academic medicine. Participants will acquire skills in institutional organization, health care economics (with a heavy concentration on finance), legal and regulatory issues, and the full spectrum of communication skills. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.

Application Procedure: Completed applications must be received via email by 12:00 Noon on October 29, 2008. Email completed application to hmsofa_programs@hms.harvard.edu, Office for Faculty Affairs, Harvard Medical School. For information about this application, call (617) 432-1198 or email hmsofa_programs@hms.harvard.edu. Attendance is limited to no more than 60 HMS clinicians, educators, and researchers, to be selected by Program Directors. Participants will be notified around December 21st of acceptance into the Program.

Faculty Eligibility Guidelines: Instructor for at least 3 years as of July 1, 2009, Assistant Professors, and Associate Professors for no more than 3 years as of July 1, 2009.

Tuition: $595

Continuing Medical Education Credits: Harvard Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Harvard Medical School designates this educational activity for a maximum of 23.15 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This course is designed to meet the criteria for 1 hour Risk Management credits in Massachusetts.
