Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard University provide its faculty and appointees with resources and benefits that vary according to:

1) type of position held (faculty, trainee)
2) source of paycheck, Harvard or other institutions

Of the medical/dental schools 8,000 faculty appointees, approximately 1,200 receive a Harvard Salary paycheck and are therefore considered employees of the University. The remaining 12,800 faculty appointments are paid directly by the affiliated hospitals or outside institutions and are therefore not considered employees of the University. Understanding this definition will clarify which the privileges and benefits offered below are available to an individual.
