Clinician Teacher (Longer Service) Criteria and Examples
Criteria:
Ten years of meritorious service with evidence of substantial contributions and growth as a teacher and clinician. The major elements of these criteria are teaching and education, clinical practice and care, citizenship and leadership, and evidence of substantial contributions and growth. There will be no requirement for written scholarship. The concept of continuous substantial contribution and growth in the above areas is very important.
Examples of contribution and growth in various areas
(No candidate will be expected to contribute in all ways in any particular category)
Examples as a teacher are:
- Significant role in HMS courses
- Preceptor in hospital /practice /ambulatory care setting
- Ward attending/visit
- Mentorship
- Support of student community service projects
- Role in Continuing Medical Education
- Development of a new curriculum
- Continuous contributions over several years to medical student/resident/fellow education
- Clerkship director
- Program director for Residency/Fellowship Programs
- Leadership of a course
- Acquisition or development of new knowledge of teaching methods
Examples in practice and care are:
- Exemplary provider of patient care, with board certification in field if available

Leadership in a practice or hospital setting
- Recognition by peers as a skilled clinician
- Utilization of new diagnostic or treatment modalities
Examples as a citizen and leader:

Involvement in administration of clinical programs

Service on hospital committees, e.g. Quality Improvement Committee

Service on HMS committees, e.g. Admissions Committee

Role in developing and supporting programs important to the academic mission of the local institutions
