94 such Fellowships were offered in 2007. Both men and women may apply. The awards may be used for "mini-sabbaticals" during which the scholar might "buy-out" of clinical responsibilities long enough to write a grant, finish critical research, develop new curriculum and prepare a manuscript. Or, awards may also be used to provide laboratory assistance at a time when a junior faculty member does not yet have independent funding. The Program seeks to use these, as well as other strategies, to increase the diversity of the faculty at all levels.
This support is intended to be an important part of HMS's efforts to increase the representation of women at the higher ranks in the Faculty of Medicine. Fellowships provide funding of at least $25,000.
Eligibility: M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree, appointment as Instructor or Assistant Professor in HMS or HSDM, and an established interest in an academic career.
