| Dr.
Bin Xie, from China, is a professor of psychiatry
at Shanghai Second Medical University with a serious interest in and
career-long involvement in mental health policy-making and legislation.
He drafted the recently enacted "Shanghai Municipal Mental Health Regulatons,"
and has been assigned to lead a national committee of experts charged
with conducting research and further study in order to expedite the
process, ongoing now since 1998, of amending and adopting the Chinese
National Mental Health Act.
Dr. Mahar Agusno, from Indonesia, is Senior Lecturer in the Department
of Psychiatry at Gadjah Mada Medical School, and Deputy Director of
the Mental In-patient Installation at Sardjito General Hospital. He
is keenly interested in cultural and social psychiatry, and plans to
develop a project proposal on post-traumatic stress disorder among orphanage
children in Yogyakarta.
Dr. Carla Raymondalexas Marchira, from Indonesia, is a senior resident
in the Department of Psychiatry at Gadjah Mada Medical School. She was
formerly the head of a government community health center in Yogyakarta,
and plans to develop a proposal for a study which would entail observation
and assessment of the knowledge and quality of mental health workers
with the aim of facilitating the improvement of mental health services
provided by Indonesion community health centers.
Dr. Fan Jiang of
Beijing, Chief Secretary of the Chinese Medical Association. Dr. Jiang
is interested in researching health leadership in China, specifically
the factors that influence doctors to become leading specialists or
administrators.
Dr. Xiao Shuiyuan of Hunan, Director and Professor, Department of Social
Medicine, Hunan Medical University. Dr. Xiao studied social, economic,
and cultural changes in the last twenty years and their linkage to suicide
behaviors in rural China.
Dr. Li Ming of Suzhou, a psychiatrist and Director of the Suzhou Psychiatric
Hospital. Dr. Li worked to develop a research project on mental health
policy concerning cost/benefit analysis of institutional and community
psychiatry.
Dr. Laksono Trisnantoro of Yogyakarta, Director of the Centre for Health
Service Management at the Gadjah Mada University School of Medicine.
Trained as a health economist and policy analyst, Dr. Trisnantoro is
interested in studying health care policy and managed care's impact
on Indonesian doctors.
