The Department of Social Medicine runs an active fellowship program for professionals and academics to further their education and understanding of critical issues at the intersection of medicine and culture. Fellowships in the Department of Social Medicine offer opportunities for deepened training in medical anthropology, ethnography, mental health research and medical ethics for social scientists, researchers and clinicians.

Post Doctoral fellowships sponsored by the department include NIMH Training Program in Clinically Relevant Medical Anthropology, Fellowships in Medical Ethics, The Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy and Independent Research Fellows.

The Department sponsors three international fellowship programs focused on health and mental health concerns of China and Southeast Asian Nations. These fellowship programs include the University of Melbourne-Harvard Medical School Collaborative, and the Fogarty Training Program in International Mental Health.

The Program in the Practice of Scientific Investigation provides ongoing training in research ethics for post-doctoral research fellows working in the Medical School's labs. The Program hosts a series of workshops and symposia on such issues as scientific publication, research fraud and lab management.

Clinicians and other professionals may also participate in the various faculty seminars offered in the Department.
