The
Department of Social Medicine is engaged in community health care initiatives
both in the U.S. and abroad. Affiliations with community health providers
and hospitals allow for the clinical application of research and
the training of physicians and others involved in direct patient care.
The Clinical Ethics Consortium, sponsored by the Division of Medical
Ethics, provides opportunities for clinicians, nurses and others at
Harvard affiliated hospitals to examine and learn from ethical conflicts
that arise in the clinical setting.
Through the affiliation between the Program in Infectious Disease and
Social Change and Partners In Health, patient care, with a particular
focus on MDRTB and HIV care, is provided. The PIDSC/PIH affiliation
also provides training for physicians, medical students, nurses and
community health care workers.
Clinical activities have recently expanded with the establishment of
the Division of Social Medicine and Health Inequalities, a collaborative
effort between the Department and the Brigham and Women's Hospital.
This newly created division will address health disparities through
service, training, education and research.
