My research revolves around the following: Genetics of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): In collaboration with Dr. Patricia Fraser (Dept. of Medicine/Div. of rheumatology BWH) we are continuing to explore the role of genetics in SLE, in particular genes in the MHC as well as T cell receptor genes. Neuropsychiatric aspects of SLE: In collaboration with Drs. Shah Khoshbin and Dr. Bonnie Glanz (Dept . of Neurology, BWH) we are conducting a long-term study of cognitive defects in patients with SLE. Long term studies of neuropsych testing are being correlated with EEG, MRI, and immunological abnormalities. Anti-phospholipid antibodies: We have developed two new assays for the detection of antibodies to prothrombin and to beta (2) glycoprotein 1. The presence of these antibodies, as well as other anti-phospholipid antibodies (e.g. anti-cardiolipin antibodies and lupus anticoagulant) is being associated with clinical and laboratory parameters in these patients. We have added a new diagnostic assay for rheumatoid arthritis, Anti-CCP, and one evaluating it.
