Summer Programs

The Summer Honors Undergraduate Research Program (SHURP)
is offered for college students from under-represented groups who are seriously considering research careers in the biomedical sciences. SHURP will be entering its eighteenth year in 2008, and presently has over 365 alumni from colleges across the country, over 90% of whom are continuing or planning to continue training and careers in the sciences. SHURP is one of the fifteen summer research programs participating in the Summer Research Early Identification Program of the Leadership Alliance, a consortium of 31 colleges and universities dedicated to improving the participation of historically underrepresented students in graduate education programs.

The Four Directions Summer Research Program (FDSRP)
is a summer program run for Native American college students by Native American medical student members of the Native American Health Organization at Harvard Medical School. FDSRP will be thirteen years old in 2006, and has had 95 participants so far. FDSRP welcomes applicants who are interested in becoming familiar with the medical and research community at Harvard Medical School, and who are seriously committed to helping their Native communities.
