M.B.S.H. recognizes that an important way of countering the lack of minorities and women in science is to increase the interest of young people in this field. Featured opportunities for involvement include participation in Science Club Mentors and Citizen Schools which place graduate students in biomedical sciences in middle schools to encourage young students continued interests in science and mathematics.  Additionally, opportunities exist for members to participate in the various REU programs on campus including SHURP, CURE, and SCTRP.

M.B.S.H. also recognizes that outreach does not end with building student interests in the biomedical sciences.  The group frequently highlights opportunities for community involvement and in 2012 organized a volunteer effort and food drive to benefit Rosie’s Place Boston.  If you have any ideas for community involvement, please send suggestions to KeyAnna Schmiedl at schmiedl@fas.harvard.edu.

Kick Off and Mid-Year

MBSH hosts an annual Kick-Off and Mid-Year event as an opportunity to bring the broader community together and share ideas that inform future MBSH offerings.  These events typically occur in mid-September and late January.
