Program Overview

Mission Statement

The interdepartmental Bioinformatics and Integrative (BIG) PhD program trains future leaders in the field of bioinformatics and genomics. Our mission is to provide BIG graduate students with the tools to conduct original research and the ability to develop novel approaches and new technologies to address fundamental biological questions.


Our Program 

Students will be joint members of BIG and a 'home program' chosen from one of the four Division of Medical Sciences (DMS) programs, BBS, Immunology, Neuroscience, or Virology.


Prospective students

Candidates for BIG must have completed a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative science or a Bachelor's degree with a substantial minor in engineering or physical science.
