The goal during the second year of training is to gain a more advanced knowledge of medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, and pediatric dermatology, and to provide the resident with the opportunity to develop their career interests. By participating in this wide spectrum of subspecialty dermatology, residents become familiar with advanced medical therapies and treatment modalities. The goal of the third year of training is to master an advanced understanding of medical dermatology and its subspecialties.
Second-year residents complete blocks of advanced dermatology, inpatient consultation, procedural dermatology, pediatric dermatology, and dermatopathology. Senior blocks also include dedicated training at the VA Medical Center, The Lahey Clinic, Teach Block, additional Advanced Dermatology blocks, and electives as described in further detail above.
