Harvard Medical School's Center of Excellence in Women's Health was established
in 1998 to bring together faculty from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard Medical School to develop clinical, faculty development, education, and research programs around a common mission to improve the health status of diverse women across the life span.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Harvard School of Public Health, Joslin Diabetes Center, Children's Hospital Boston, Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge Health Alliance, and The Women's Eye Health Task Force through the Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology later joined the collaboration. In addition to increasing women’s health collaboration among the HMS-affiliated health institutions, the Center of Excellence in Women’s Health is committed to fostering the recruitment, retention, and promotion of culturally-diverse women in academic medicine.
