About the Program and Trainings
To the Heart of Women is a “train-the-trainer” program that involves two types of educators:
  1. Trainers: Health professionals who teach Lay Health Educators how to bring To the Heart of Women to women in communities of color.

  2. Lay Health Educators: Community women who receive special health education and group facilitation training so that they can share cardiovascular risk reduction information with other women in their community.

To the Heart of Women has four manuals for implementing the program:

Manuals for Black Women

  • The Trainer’s Manual for Black Women
  • The Lay Health Educator’s Manual for Black Women

While the introductions of these manuals are tailored to either trainers or lay health educators, the remaining content of the manuals—eight health education units designed for black women—is identical.

Manuals for Latina Women

  • The Trainer’s Manual for Latina Women
  • The Lay Health Educator’s Manual for Latina Women

While the introductions of these manuals are tailed to either trainers or lay health educators, the remaining content of the manuals—eight health education units designed for Latina women—is identical.

To the Heart of Women was developed collaboratively. Please see Acknowledgements for details.
