Teaching about Cultural Competence
and Reproductive Health and Sexuality

Using case examples, this session considers some of the cultural influences clinicians and patients may bring to discussions about reproductive health. Participants have the opportunity to role-play taking a culturally sensitive sexual history, provide culturally relevant counseling regarding safer sex and sexual safety, and explain the reasons for having a routine pelvic exam and Pap smear. Tips for performing a culturally competent pelvic exam are also reviewed.
