About This Project
Harvard Medical Schools Center of Excellence in Womens Health, in conjunction with Centers of Excellence in Womens Health at Boston University, University of Puerto Rico, University of Washington and Tulane/Xavier Universities, developed a National Centers of Excellence in Womens Health Cultural Competence Curriculum for the Department of Health and Human Services Office on Womens Health. This model curriculum is designed to train health care providers about the unique needs of minority and other underserved women. The curriculum can be adopted for use in multiple educational settings within academic medical institutions including the Centers of Excellence in Womens Health as well as in other health care arenas.
Training
The curriculum consists of Training Sessions that provide learners with historical context, basic concepts, clinical information, communication strategies, and other skills to improve their competence and confidence in caring for minority and other underserved women. While the curriculum can be implemented in its entirety, it also is flexible. Each Training Session is a freestanding unit with its own outline, presentation, and resources.
