Harvard Medical School's Center for Excellence In Women's Health -5th Annual Research Conference - Understanding and Addressing the Obesity Epidemic: Current Research Affecting Women

The conference will feature presentations by senior Harvard Medical School investigators and clinicians. In the first half of the conference, entitled "Science and Medical Implications of Obesity and Weight Management," Jeffrey Flier, M.D. will discuss the molecular biology of appetite and energy balance, JoAnn Manson, M.D., Dr.P.H. will explain the medical and public health implications of the obesity epidemic, and Alison Field, Sc.D. will discuss the causes of obesity in children. In the second half of the program, entitled "Current Treatments for Obesity" Janey Pratt, M.D. will present various surgical options available, Lee Kaplan, M.D., Ph.D. will discuss what surgery can teach us about effective obesity prevention and treatment, JudyAnn Bigby, M.D. will discuss weight management programs at the community level, and Caroline Apovian, M.D. will present how various diets work. These sessions will be followed by a panel discussion with the presenters moderated by Ellen Seely, M.D.

Additionally, a poster session will highlight research conducted by Harvard Medical School Faculty who were awarded grants from the HMS Fund for Women's Health, as well as other current women's health research.

A light lunch will be provided, and the free program will conclude with a reception. CME credit is available.
