Educational and professional experience:

Loring Conant is a graduate of Harvard College and Tufts University School of Medicine. He received his medical training in Rochester, New York and Boston, Massachusetts, board certified in Internal Medicine. He has spent the majority of his career as a Senior Physician at the Harvard University Health Services until the last decade when he has been a member of the Department of Medicine at the Cambridge Health Alliance and was the Medical Director of the Senior Health Center. He has maintained a long-term interest in hospice care.

In the late 1970's he served on the Professional Liaison Committee in the formative years of the National Hospice Organization. For nine years he served as Medical Director of the Hospice of Cambridge, and more recently has been a faculty member for an innovative course at the Harvard Medical School entitled "Living with Life-threatening Illness" which addresses palliative care issues for first year medical students. He also teaches two required courses for Harvard medical students, Patient-Doctor 1 and 3. He convenes a palliative care support group for primary care residents at the Cambridge Health Alliance, called "Food for the Soul", now in its 7th year. His interest in cross cultural care issues has involved him in working with interpreters at the Somerville Hospital.

He is a Senior Associate in Medicine at the Center for Applied Ethics and Professional Practice at Educational Development Center and a member of the Advisory Committee for the Initiative for Pediatric Palliative Care (IPPC). He has been a member of the Core Faculty for The Program in Palliative Care Education and Practice for the past 4 years.
