Current teaching and research interests:

I am working on a research project to evaluate the impact of routine provider feedback of symptom distress and quality of life scores with children with advanced cancer using a handheld computer system. We are also aiming to better understand the at determinants of good quality communication between parents of children with advanced cancer and oncologists. Regarding teaching, I participate as a faculty in a first-year medical school elective, Living with Life Threatening Illness. In this course, each student follows a teacher-patient over a 3 month period and brings this experience to weekly small and large group discussions. Through PACT, I facilitated monthly round consisting of a large group discussion regarding pediatric palliative care with an invited speaker, as well as a case presentation. I am also involved in teaching residents, nurses and home care staff.
