David Giansiracusa

Educational and professional experience:

After undergraduate studies in zoology at the University of California, Berkeley, and medical education at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco, David performed internal medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship training at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.   From 1980-2003, he served on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical School as a clinician-educator in internal medicine and rheumatology and was a leader in medical student and internal medicine resident education and educational administration.   He also served as the Director of the Division of Rheumatology and the Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine for Undergraduate Medical Education and Faculty Affairs.

Current teaching and research interests:

On July 1st, 2004, David joined the Division of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care as the Co-Director of the Pain and Palliative Care Program at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In this role, he continues his clinical and educational involvement as well as helps develop a palliative care program at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital for patients with non-cancer illnesses.
