Organizational Structure

The Core Director, Dr. Stuart Schnitt, will supervise the daily workflow in the facility. Dr. Schnitt, with the assistance of the other facility pathologists (Drs. Timothy Jacobs and James Connolly), will monitor the histology, immunohistology, and other procedures performed in the laboratory. Natasha Pliss is an experienced histotechnologist with extensive experience in immunohistochemistry and will have primary responsibility for providing the technical services.

Services Provided [Human Tissue Only]

Conventional Histology Services and Slide Preparation

  • Specially prepared paraffin and frozen tissue processing for in situ hybridization
  • Paraffin and frozen tissue sectioning in RNAse-free conditions
  • Routine and Specialized Histological staining.

Immunohistochemistry

  • Manual or automated immunostaining using immunoperoxidase or immunoalkaline phosphatase techniques.
  • Immunohistochemistry techniques on frozen and fixed tissues.
  • Doublestaining immunohistochemistry techniques on frozen and fixed tissues.
  • Establishment of immunohistochemical assays for novel antibodies.

Photomicroscopy Digital Image Capture

  • The facility is equipped with a digital image capture system using standard light microscopy.
  • Morphometric and quantitative analysis

Microdissection

  • Microdissection services will initially be provided in conjunction with the In Situ Hybridization Core Facility, but will ultimately be available in this facility.
