Since 1890, HMS alumni have enjoyed the company of their accomplished peers.

The Alumni Council consists of 15 members elected to three-year terms. We promote and support advances in medical education, the welfare of HMS students, student-alumni interactions, and alumni-HMS interactions. We also appoint, in consultation with the dean, the director of alumni relations, the chairman of the Alumni Fund, and the editor-in-chief of the Harvard Medical Alumni Bulletin.

The Council meets three times a year. At our fall meeting, two committees present the slate of candidates—for officers and councilors—to be ranked by the full Council. In early spring we mail a ballot together with the candidates’ biographies and statements of purpose to all HMS alumni. The outcome of the election is announced during the annual business meeting of the HMS Alumni Association on Alumni Day in June.

The Council is the direct connection between alumni and the dean of Harvard Medical School. The Council welcomes comments and suggestions that can improve the School and our service to all alumni. To get involved or to nominate candidates, contact HMS Alumni Relations at 617-384-8520 or hmsalum@hms.harvard.edu.
