Description:

Aging Program aims to support new investigators of outstanding promise in the basic biological and clinical sciences relevant to understanding aging processes and age-related diseases and disabilities. The award is intended to provide new faculty with support during the especially critical first 3 years of their independent research careers.

Duration: up to 4 years Amount: Up to $100,000 per year (note: salary costs, including fringe benefits, may not exceed $20K/yr) Foundation Deadline:

Eligibility
Requirements:
MD, MD/PhD, PhD

Applicants must:
  1. Be in the first 3 years of their research careers following post-doctoral fellowship, and show outstanding promise in basic biomedical research relevant to aging.
  2. As of the application deadline, hold a full time faculty appointment at the sponsoring institution, and not have been in such a position for more than 3 years as of July 15, 2010. These awards are targeted toward Assistant Professors. Time spent in clinical internships, post-doctoral training, residencies or work toward board certification does not count as part of this 3 year limit. Years as Instructor are counted, however.
  3. Nominees may hold one concurrent foundation award for up to one year.

Note:

Harvard Medical School is the nominating institution for members of the HMS community. In addition to HMS, BWH and MGH may each nominate 1 candidate directly. HMS faculty members with primary work sites at BWH and MGH may only apply through the hospitals and NOT through HMS. FAS and HSPH faculty must apply through the Office of the Provost.
